Ambrette comes from the seeds of the musk mallow, a plant in the hibiscus family, and its oil smells musky, warm and slightly fruity, with a soft floral facet and a hint of brandy or pear. Because it gives a clean, skin-like musk without animal ingredients, perfumers value it as a plant-based source of musk. Ambrette gives powders, florals and woods a smooth, silky warmth. Next to iris or rose it adds a velvety base; next to citrus it becomes gently sensual.
In this range it spreads across all three levels, most often in the base, adding a soft, skin-like musk with a slightly fruity glow.
