Agarwood (Oud)

18

Oud comes from agarwood, the dark resinous heartwood that forms when certain tropical trees are infected by a mould. The wood is distilled into a thick, precious oil. The smell is deep, woody and smoky, with a sweet balsamic warmth, leathery sides and a faintly animal edge. Natural oud is rare, so many perfumes use oud accords or molecules built to evoke it. Perfumers combine oud with rose, saffron, amber, vanilla and musk to create dramatic, opulent scents. The overall impression is dark, rich and unmistakable.

Oud sits mostly in the base in this range, with some presence in the heart, adding a dark, smoky, resinous depth.
