Blackcurrant
2Blackcurrant is the dark berry of Ribes nigrum, with a smell that is jammy and tart at once. It carries a deep purple fruitiness, a little green sharpness from the leaf and a touch of sweetness underneath. Perfumers build the berry note as an accord, and it is related to cassis, which usually points to the sharper bud material. Blackcurrant gives a composition a rich, juicy fruit heart. It adds depth to florals such as rose, enlivens spice and amber, and makes citrus openings feel fuller and more mature.
Blackcurrant mostly opens the fragrances in this range, with a few carrying it into the heart, where its dark, jammy tartness deepens florals and spice.
