Labdanum
26Labdanum is a sticky resin gathered from the rock rose, a shrub that grows around the Mediterranean. It is processed into an absolute with a deep, warm smell. The scent is ambery, sweet and balsamic, with leathery, slightly animal and smoky nuances. It is the backbone of amber accords and appears in many chypre and oriental fragrances. Perfumers use labdanum to add depth, richness and a dark glow, and it pairs naturally with vanilla, patchouli, benzoin, oakmoss and leather. Its character is rich and a little untamed.
Labdanum mostly sits in the base in this range, giving a dark, ambery glow that deepens vanilla, wood and leather.
