Leather
4Leather in perfume is not taken from hides. It is an accord built by perfumers to recreate the smell of worked leather. The effect can be smoky, dry and slightly tarry, or soft, suede-like and powdery. Traditional leather accords draw on birch tar, labdanum and tobacco-like notes, while modern ones use aroma molecules. Leather gives depth and a sense of texture. It pairs with tobacco, incense, woods and rose. The result can read as refined and dark, or as warm and supple, depending on the balance.
Leather mostly sits in the base here, adding a dry, smoky or suede-soft texture beneath the florals and spices.
