Virginia Cedar

8

Virginia cedar is distilled from the wood of Juniperus virginiana, an evergreen tree native to eastern North America, often called red cedar. The oil smells dry and clean, like freshly sharpened pencils, with a light sweetness, a hint of resin and a faint smoky edge. It is lighter and more transparent than sandalwood or oud. Perfumers use it to build the dry woody structure of fresh and aromatic fragrances and to support florals, citrus and leather. It gives a composition a tidy, pale, upright backbone.

In this range it sits mostly in the base, giving a dry, pencil-clean woody backbone beneath florals, spice and citrus.
