Mugler perfume lines: Angel, Alien and A*Men, version by version

Mugler's range centres on three lines, Angel (1992), A*Men (1996) and Alien (2005), next to Womanity, Mugler Cologne and Starlicious. Angel is the ambery gourmand in the star bottle, built on praline and patchouli. Alien is jasmine sambac with cashmeran wood in the amethyst bottle. This page sets out every Angel, Alien and A*Men version on Mugler's French store by line, plus Angel Elixir, with the house's concentration label, refill sizes and price per 100 ml; the full range is under Mugler perfumes.

Angel: the 1992 gourmand in the star bottle

Where to start is Angel Eau de Parfum. Mugler sums it up as "la sensualité de la praline et du patchouli" and calls it the first gourmand perfume in the history of perfumery. L'Oréal, of which Mugler is part, says Angel created a new olfactory group, the ambery gourmand, combining patchouli with praline, red berries and vanilla. Vogue names Olivier Cresp as the perfumer.

The flankers keep the star and change its colour. Vogue writes of Angel Elixir as a dark blue version of the original five-pointed-star flacon, Angel Stellar gets a cobalt blue star in Mugler's wording, and Angel Fantasm comes in deep black lacquer. Angel Nova moves away from the formula: a 2020 launch by Sonia Constant, Louise Turner and Quentin Bisch that Mugler files as a floral, fruity, woody perfume, where the original is a gourmand with amber notes.

Alien and Alien Goddess: jasmine, cashmeran and amethyst glass

Start with Alien Eau de Parfum, which Mugler describes as a powerful jasmine floral paired with woody scents and amber notes, in a talisman bottle with amethyst reflections. The keys are jasmine sambac, cashmeran wood and white amber. WWD names Dominique Ropion as the perfumer who created Alien's juice and calls Alien, introduced in 2005, Mugler's largest fragrance franchise.

Alien Goddess is the solar branch of the line. It launched in 2021, made by Marie Salamagne and Nathalie Lorson, and Mugler sells it as a sunny perfume with jasmine and vanilla notes. Alien Hypersense is Ropion's second pass at his own formula: WWD reports that he was asked how he would redo Alien's juice and chose to blend an overdose of white flowers with a cashmeran, woody signature. It reached Europe in mid-February 2024.

The house calls it a floral vanilla perfume for women. A vanilla accord sits with jasmine grandiflorum, tuberose and cashmeran. Mugler prints 208.33 € per 100 ml for the 60 ml bottle at 125 €; the 90 ml bottle at 160 € works out at 177.78 € per 100 ml.

A*Men: the men's line

The place to begin is A*Men Eau de Toilette. In Mugler's words, in 1996, in the wake of Angel's gourmand revolution, it shook up men's codes as the first ambery gourmand men's perfume. The house sets the freshness of a lavender accord against patchouli and coffee. No A*Men version is in the parfum1 range at the moment, so the table below is a reference only.

A*Men Stellar is labelled by Mugler as ambery, gourmand and aromatic. A*Men Fantasm is the chocolate version, filed under woody men's perfumes. A*Men Eau de Toilette also has a 100 ml refill.

Refills: fountain and 100 ml bottles

Mugler says it was "born refillable" in 1992 with Angel, and its UK site names the star as the first refillable bottle in the world of perfume. There are two routes. The in-store Mugler Fountain refills Angel and Alien, and since 2022 Alien Goddess; L'Oréal counted more than 10,500 fountains in January 2022. At home you use a 100 ml recyclable glass refill bottle.

On Mugler's French store on 2 November 2026 the 100 ml refill list covered Angel Eau de Parfum, Angel Nova, Angel Fantasm, Angel Stellar, Angel Blush, Alien Eau de Parfum, Alien Extraintense, Alien Goddess, Alien Hypersense, Alien Pulp and A*Men Eau de Toilette. Because a refill is 100 ml, its price is the price per 100 ml.

Alien Eau de Parfum refill: 129 €, where the 60 ml bottle is 200 € per 100 ml.
Alien Extraintense refill: 137 €, where the 60 ml bottle is 208.33 € per 100 ml.
Angel Eau de Parfum refill: 145 €; the 50 ml bottle is 240 € per 100 ml.

Mugler states that you cannot refill a bottle with a different fragrance. To tell whether a bottle is refillable, look for the word engraved on the glass or printed on the pack, or for a removable pump. Mugler's own saving line for Alien: refilling a 60 ml bottle with a 100 ml refill instead of buying a new 60 ml bottle saves 19% of glass, 29% of plastic, 100% of metal and 19% of cardboard.

Womanity, Cologne, Starlicious and Aura

Womanity (2010) is an Eau de parfum with fig and salty accents; the house text names caviar, fig and wood. It is refillable, 80 ml at 125 €, which is 156.25 € per 100 ml. Mugler Cologne dates from 2001 and fuses petit grain with white musk: an Eau de toilette at 85 € for 100 ml. Starlicious is three 75 ml Eaux de toilette, Pineapple Musk, Pistachio Praline and Berry Licorice, which Mugler presents as gourmand waters based on the sunniest summer mocktails. They cost 59 €, or 78.67 € per 100 ml. Aura, from 2017, is not on Mugler's French store.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between Angel and Alien?

Angel (1992) is a gourmand built on praline and patchouli with red berries and vanilla, in a star-shaped bottle. Alien (2005) is a floral, ambery, woody perfume with jasmine sambac, cashmeran and white amber, in an amethyst talisman bottle.

Is Alien Goddess part of Alien?

Yes. It is an Alien line launched in 2021 with bergamot, jasmine grandiflorum and bourbon vanilla, made by Marie Salamagne and Nathalie Lorson.

Can every Mugler perfume be refilled?

Mugler says most of its fragrances are refillable. Look for "refillable" engraved on the glass or on the pack. The at-home refill is a 100 ml bottle, and you cannot refill a bottle with a different fragrance.

Which A*Men should I start with?
