elemi

9

Elemi is a resin that seeps from trees of the Canarium genus, which is tapped and then distilled for its oil. Fresh elemi smells lemony and peppery, with a light pine edge and the glow of incense. Perfumers value it as a bright resin: it gives some of the depth of incense without the weight. In a fragrance it supplies citrus with a spicy, balsamic backbone and links a fresh opening to deeper woods and amber. It tends to smooth the move from the first spray to the heart, so a lively start does not feel detached from what follows.

Elemi mostly opens the fragrances in this range, with a smaller group carrying it into the heart, where its lemony resin brightens spice and amber.
