Pink Pepper
58Pink pepper is not true pepper. It is the dried berry of a tree from the Schinus family. The berries smell lightly peppery, with a rosy, fruity and resinous sparkle and a hint of citrus. The note is gentler and brighter than black pepper. Perfumers add it at the top of a fragrance to give a lively lift, and it suits florals, woods and fruit equally well. A small amount adds air and spark without turning the perfume into a spice scent.
Pink pepper sits mostly at the top in this range, where it gives the opening a bright, rosy sparkle before the heart takes over.
