Bergamot is a citrus fruit grown mainly for its peel, which is cold-pressed to give a fragrant oil. The scent is bright and sparkling, a little floral and slightly bitter, softer than lemon and less sweet than orange.
Lavender is a purple-flowered herb grown in sunny, dry regions. Steam distillation of the flower spikes gives a clean oil.
Coconut is a note perfumers build from aroma molecules, since the fruit gives little scent oil. It smells creamy, milky and sweet, with a nutty, sun-warmed softness that recalls beach days.
Lily refers to the large white blooms of the Lilium genus, known for a strong, heady scent. It smells creamy and rich, with a slightly green, waxy petal and a hint of spice.
Orange blossom is the white flower of the bitter orange tree. Steam distillation gives neroli oil, while solvent extraction gives orange blossom absolute, which is sweeter and more honeyed.
Vanilla comes from the cured pods of a climbing orchid. The pods are fermented and dried until they turn dark and oily, and that process develops the scent.
