Damask Rose

Damask rose is Rosa damascena, a rose grown in several countries for its petals, which are distilled into rose oil or extracted into an absolute. The scent is full and honeyed, slightly spicy, with a green freshness and a hint of fruit. It is the rose most people picture when they think of a classic perfume rose: rich, round and a little velvety. Perfumers use it as the floral centre of a fragrance and pair it with oud, amber, musk, patchouli or fruit. On its own it can feel almost like jam and petals; with woods it turns deeper and drier.

Nearly always a heart note here, damask rose gives a fragrance its floral centre, rounding the fruit above and the woods and amber below.
