Ginger 102 Ginger is the underground stem of a tropical plant. Fresh ginger gives a zesty, juicy, almost lemony spice, while dried root oil smells warmer, woodier and more peppery. In perfume the note is fresh, sparkling and slightly hot, with a clean bite that cuts through sweetness. Perfumers use it to enliven citrus, add spice to woods and give amber a lift. It pairs with cardamom, bergamot, vetiver and cedar. Ginger tends to open a fragrance with energy before settling into the heart.
Ginger sits mostly in the top notes in this range, bringing a zesty, spicy bite that lifts the opening of the fragrance.
