Incense

2

Incense is not one ingredient but a family of smells. In perfumery it usually means the smoky, resinous character of burning frankincense and similar resins, sometimes with a touch of myrrh. It smells dry, smoky, slightly lemony and balsamic, like a quiet stone hall after a ceremony. Perfumers use incense to give depth and a solemn atmosphere, and it combines well with woods, amber, leather, rose and oud. It can feel serious and austere, or soft and smoky, depending on how much sweetness is around it.

Incense spreads across the heart and base in this range, adding a dry, smoky, resinous depth to woods and amber.
