Rose is one of the most widely used flowers in perfumery. Its scent comes from petals, mostly through steam distillation for rose oil or solvent extraction for rose absolute. It smells fresh, sweet and slightly green, and it can turn deep and jammy or light and dewy. Perfumers use it in feminine florals, but also in woody, leather and oriental scents, where it adds richness. Rose pairs with patchouli, oud, musk and fruit. Different varieties and treatments give very different results, from cool and watery to dark and honeyed.
Rose is a heart note in most of these fragrances, sitting between the opening and the base and giving the middle a soft floral richness.
