Cassis is the French word for blackcurrant, and in perfumery it usually means the material taken from the buds of the blackcurrant bush, Ribes nigrum. The bud absolute is a classic ingredient with a very particular smell: tart, green and juicy, with a sharp dark-berry edge and a slightly musky, almost animal undertone.
Pear is a fruit note that perfumers recreate rather than distil. The note smells juicy, crisp and watery, with a pale green freshness and a gentle sweetness, like biting into the flesh of a ripe fruit.
Strawberry in perfume smells sweet, juicy and jammy, with a fresh red-berry brightness and a slightly green, seedy tang. The fruit yields almost no oil, so perfumers create the note from fruity aroma molecules, often with a sugar-like softness.
Jasmine sambac is a white jasmine, also called Arabian jasmine, whose flowers open in the evening. It smells richer and fuller than common jasmine, with a creamy, green and fruity sweetness, a slightly tea-like freshness and a lush floral heart.
