Litchi

Litchi is a tropical fruit with a rough red skin and translucent white flesh. Its smell is juicy and lightly floral, a little like grape, with a fresh, rosy edge. Perfumers usually build it as an accord from fruity and floral materials rather than extracting it from the fruit. The note gives a floral composition a juicy, glossy start and works especially well with rose, a quality the two share. It is sweet but not heavy, which is why it often appears at the very beginning of a fragrance, before deeper florals, musk or wood take over.
