Oakmoss
4Oakmoss is a pale lichen that grows on oak trunks, and it is not a true moss. Treated with solvents, it gives a dark green absolute. The scent is earthy and damp, like a forest floor, with a bitter green edge and a leathery depth. It is the traditional base of chypre perfumes, where it gives a dark, elegant frame to citrus and flowers. Modern perfumes often use lighter versions or recreated accords. Oakmoss pairs with patchouli, bergamot, labdanum and rose.
Oakmoss sits mostly in the base in this range, adding an earthy, mossy depth and a bitter green shade under brighter notes.
