Olibanum
52Olibanum is another name for frankincense, a resin collected from the bark of Boswellia trees. When distilled or extracted, it gives a dry, balsamic, lemony and slightly peppery smell with a pine-like freshness and a calm, smoky depth. It is cleaner and brighter than many other resins. Perfumers use olibanum to add an airy, lifted feel to woods, amber, rose and musk, and it brings an elegant transparency to heavier compositions. It also works in fresh scents where a light smoke is welcome.
