Violet in perfume comes in two forms. The flower note smells sweet, soft and powdery, with a delicate, slightly fruity quality. The leaf, used as an absolute, smells green, cool and almost cucumber-like. Much of the flower character today is recreated with ionones, aroma molecules that give the typical powdery sweetness. Perfumers use violet to add a gentle, elegant softness to florals, woods and musks, and it pairs well with iris, rose and vanilla. It can feel retro and refined or fresh and watery.
Violet is mostly a heart note in this range, adding a soft, powdery, slightly green sweetness between the opening and the base.
