No perfume matches Kayali Vanilla 28 note for note. On house-listed notes, Pantheon Roma's A shares the most of Vanilla 28's notes, five of its seven. Fugazzi's Vanilla Haze is a gourmand that shares four, and Montale's Arabians Tonka is the darker take that also names brown sugar. Four more alternatives follow. To wear the original first, Vanilla 28 comes in 3 and 10 ml decants.

Kayali Vanilla 28 in a few lines
Kayali describes Vanilla 28 as sweet, addictive and warm, built on rich vanillas, brown sugar and tonka. It opens with Madagascan vanilla orchid and creamy jasmine, sweet tonka sits at the heart, and the base holds brown sugar, amber woods, musk and patchouli. The brand's US store files it under "Warm & Gourmand".
The name on the page is Gabriela Chelariu, credited as the nose, and the listing shows "Iterations: 28". The perfume launched with the brand on 16 November 2018, alongside Elixir | 11, Citrus | 08 and Musk | 12. Kayali's own pages give 100 ml at €130 on its European site.
Kayali also suggests wearing it to layer, likening it to whipped cream on a favourite dessert. That fits the note list, which leads with vanilla, brown sugar and tonka. If you are still deciding whether this sweetness suits you, our guide to the best vanilla perfumes covers the wider field.
Is there an exact Vanilla 28 dupe?
No. We read the note list of each perfume below from the house that makes it and set it against Kayali's wording. None contains the full Vanilla 28 set of vanilla orchid, jasmine, tonka, brown sugar, amber woods, musk and patchouli. Each one matches in a different direction, and the sections below say which.
Two limits on the method. First, the basis is notes only. We found no independent press comparison that names the seven as close to Vanilla 28, so the order is our editorial ranking by shared notes and stated style, not a verdict from a reviewer. Second, brown sugar is the hardest note to match: only Montale names it. Riiffs has sugar and caramel, and Fugazzi has crème brûlée. For what the other note names mean, see perfume notes explained.
Seven perfumes like Vanilla 28
Fugazzi
Vanilla Haze
Eau de Parfum · 20%
A gourmand with four shared notes. Fugazzi's list runs mandarin, coconut milk, almond and hazelnut on top, vanilla pod, tonka bean and jasmine in the heart, and crème brûlée, white amber and sweet musk at the base. It shares vanilla, tonka, jasmine and musk with Vanilla 28. Fugazzi files it as Gourmand/Ambery, and Kayali's US page files Vanilla 28 under Warm & Gourmand. The difference is dessert and nuts where Kayali says brown sugar, with a mandarin opening instead of vanilla orchid.

A

Shares the most notes, five of seven. The house base has vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli, amber and musk, and the heart adds Arabian jasmine. That puts five of Vanilla 28's seven notes in the list: vanilla, tonka, patchouli, musk and jasmine. The route there is different, with iris and orchid in the heart. There is no brown sugar, and the top is pink pepper, coconut and mango rather than vanilla orchid and jasmine.

Arabians Tonka
Eau de Parfum
Darker, and the only pick that names brown sugar. Its base names amber, oakmoss, tonka bean, leather, brown sugar and white musk, under a heart of rose and oud and a top of bergamot and saffron. That shares the tonka, sugar and musk idea with Vanilla 28 but pulls it toward the oriental. Montale's page calls it powerful and sweet.

Fruity and amber, in BDK's own words. BDK gives Italian bergamot, a cherry accord and pink berries on top, black vanilla and heliotrope in the heart, then ambroxan, cashmeran, tonka bean, labdanum and white musk. Vanilla, tonka and musk overlap with Vanilla 28. The cherry and the ambroxan push it fruitier and more modern-amber than a brown-sugar gourmand, and there is no jasmine or patchouli.

9 PM
Eau De Parfum
The lower-priced pick, at €39.50 for 100 ml on Afnan's Austrian site. The base of patchouli, amber, vanilla and tonka bean overlaps with Vanilla 28, but the top is bergamot, lavandin, cinnamon and apple, and the heart is muguet and orange blossom. It reads spicy and fruity, not sugary. No jasmine, brown sugar or musk appear in the house list.

Momento
Extrait de Parfum
Saffron and caramel. The list is saffron, mandarin and sugar on top, tonka beans, damask rose and oud in the heart, and cedarwood, amber wood and caramel at the base. Tonka and amber wood are shared, and the sweetness comes from caramel rather than brown sugar. There is no vanilla in the house list at all, so think sweet, saffron-led and oriental.

Remain
30% Essence de Parfum
Niche and resinous. Jasmine, vanilla, tonka bean and patchouli all appear in Amouage's list, alongside Hojari frankincense, Madonna lily, juniper, ambergris and guaiacwood. The list has no sugar note and adds resins and woods, so it reads resinous and woody rather than sugary. Amouage lists 100 ml at $475.

Side by side: notes and 100 ml prices
The table above sets the shared notes next to what a 100 ml bottle costs in each house's own shop, read on 2 November 2026. In the US, Kayali puts Vanilla 28 at $150 for 100 ml, and the Amouage figure is in dollars because we found no European price on its site.
Among the six picks with a 100 ml price, only Afnan's 9 PM is lower than Vanilla 28, at €39.50 in its Austrian shop. Fugazzi and Montale are both €140, close to Kayali's €130. BDK is €225, and Pantheon Roma's A is €340. Riiffs quotes dirhams with no size, so we leave it out. To compare any of the picks against smaller formats, see perfume price per ml and delivered prices by country.
Strength is the other variable. Fugazzi states 20%, Amouage states a 30% essence, and Riiffs calls Momento an extrait, while Montale and Afnan state eau de parfum. The write-up on the concentration premium explains what those labels mean for cost.
Which one to choose
- Dessert-like: Fugazzi Vanilla Haze. It keeps the vanilla, tonka, jasmine and musk and trades brown sugar for crème brûlée and nuts.
- Most shared notes, different start: Pantheon Roma A. Choose it if the base notes matter more to you than the opening.
- Darker and more oriental: Montale Arabians Tonka. It keeps the brown sugar and tonka but adds oud, leather and saffron.
- Fruity and modern: BDK Rouge Smoking, with its cherry accord and ambroxan.
- Spicy and less expensive: Afnan 9 PM, if cinnamon and apple appeal and you do not need a brown-sugar gourmand.
- Saffron and caramel: Riiffs Momento, with rose and oud.
- Resinous and niche: Amouage Remain. A niche vanilla with frankincense and ambergris.
Each of the eight is also sold as a 3 and 10 ml decant, which makes a test easy before a full bottle. In our catalogue seven of the eight are listed as unisex; our unisex round-up covers that group.
